WHAT IS GOING ON? WHAT HAVE I MISSED? WHY ARE YOU IN HOSPITAL? WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?

UNEXPECTED ILLNESS! THE DRAMA! I GOT SICK! NOTHING, BUT I'M RECOVERING! Seriously, thanks, Julia😘

Appendicitis?

Gall bladder attack?

Enjoy the jello while recovering, and we all hope your recovery is easy, other than that.

Neither, Elena, but involving same general area! Now hoping to graduate from Jello!

I aspire to crackers!

So sorry to hear this. Prayers going up for healing and such. Sucky way to spend Thanksgiving. 'Berta

Thanks so much, 'Berta, and I agree. At least I didn't have to cook. But sad for Hoosen, Jr. who flew in specially. 😢

Definitely a sucky way to celebrate. Jello is not the quintessential Thanksgiving dinner. Very hard on the Hoosens, Sr and Jr, having to swap football and feasting for hospital waiting rooms and groggy bedside visits. Particularly after Jr braved airport hysteria to come home.

Do as you're told and get better soon. We're behind you all the way.

Thank you so much, Lynn! Yes, the boys have made the best of things: Hoosen, Jr was kindly entertained by dear friends and neighbors while Hoosen attended on me! We'll try again at Christmas. ❤️

Sure hope you’re feeling better already!

Definitely on the mend, Vicki, thank you! Just got back from two circuits of the floor😂 And I was pleased to be able to knock out this post, so you wouldn't think I'd vanished!

Feel better soon, Annette! Thinking about you and love your posts! ❤️

Thanks so much Anne! How fast can you mail Southern biscuits to Wisconsin?? 😂

So sorry for whatever is going on with your innards 💕. Those turkeys wish for such things for their human captors… but the hospital is not the worst place to be, and soon they’ll give you crackers, I’m sure. I do love reading your words, get better so you can send us more!

Ahh, thank you, Margie! 😍 Yes, crackers sound like haute cuisine from here! 😂

Annette: Today's post is completely comprehensible by me even though you are presently recovering from surgery. If there are any delays in the typical schedule of NBH posts, I would understand. Note to anyone reading my comment who is not currently a Nonie: Please consider becoming a paid subscriber to support Annette's hard work! Full disclosure: I voluntarily wrote my recommendation for everyone/anyone to become a Nonnie.

So very sorry you had to be a guest in one of our fine medical hospitality suites. I’m told it’s a great way to lose weight. Wishing you speedy recovery and never having to go through it again.

Expand full comment

Thanks, Don! Yeah, my new diet plan is a bit drastic! 😂 Hospital staff lovely, but, as usual, hospital understaffed because the$$$ must go to the empty suits not the nurses. I may even write about what I've learned from this experience.

I am SO sorry you are under the weather....and potentially under the knife?

Take care of yourself and get well soon!

Thanks so much, Sheeby! Had surgery while everyone else was chowing down on turkey 🍗 so feeling very sorry for myself! Recovering in hospital as fast as I can! 😀

In the USA, you would have been kicked out yesterday!

BTW, your comment about your discussion with ER staff reminded me that I went to the Lucy Burns Museum last week. Small museum but very well done. The fact that the museum is on the grounds of the prison/workhouse where some of the American suffragettes were held gives you quite the perspective.

Hate to break it to you, Sheeby, but I am back in the USA! Mind you, it will no doubt be a big bill, and the ward is understaffed by nurses, while the bosses collect obscene salaries— even though this is technically a non-profit hospital. Lucy Burns Museum sounds awesome! I'll make a note of it.

Oh, thank you, and that especially, David! I may. never be able to face Jello again . . .

Well DA*N Annette!! I hope you're feeling hugely better day after day and will be home veryvery soon! Your son & hubby are having an unexpected additional opportunity to love you/look after you. Virtual gentle hugs from this once-a-nurse-always-a-nurse up in Canada!!

You know, I never figured you to be the type to go for sympathy ploys. But I have to hand it to you, when you do go for sympathy you certainly pull out all the stops. Surgery, NG tubes, gowns to strip one of every last shred of dignity. I admire your dedication. And I hope you have a speedy and uneventful recovery. But if it’s not speedy and/or uneventful, I hope that whatever happens provides fodder for your writing.

LOL! Yup, might as well do this in style (and also didn't want to vanish without explanation!)

And a very important big rock 🪨 it is, too, Andrea! Thank you. 😀
