Thanks, Ruth! As carrot cake, it wasn't a success (I couldn't really detect carrots) but it was delicious, so a win! Great little tearoom is always a plus! 😀
Thanks, Joyce! I learned about them from a lovely retired professor from the University of London who basically kidnapped me and Hoosen and gave us a personal tour of Norwich Cathedral back in 1988!
Thanks for jogging my memory on English (Norman) history of that period. I thoroughly enjoyed a history course I took covering it. It was that course that finally helped me understand the chronological order of all these kings and characters I had read about in the Classics Illustrated condensing of numerous novels about the era. We were fortunate enough to get to tour Canterbury Cathedral on a British Isles cruise last year. It was jaw dropping in its size alone. I also gained some understanding of Chaucer’s naughty pilgrims during a period when pilgrimages to a holy site were in fashion.
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a picture of Holden. I had decided he was one of those people who became a track star whenever a camera appeared.
BTW, most people now realize the true names of the combatants in the War of the Roses were Stark and Lannister.
As someone who readily admits her ignorance of all things medieval, Don, I have to confess your references to Holden, Stark, and Lannister confused the heck out of me until I realized you were talking about Game of Thrones.... which I don't watch. Lucky guess. 😂 This is poetic justice, since I just teased a very distinguished senior historian for not knowing something I thought he should, which was very cheeky of me because I know perfectly well it's never that simple!
Wish I could get back to England and wander through all the beautiful old cathedrals and buildings!! Back in the late 1980s, I travelled with my sister-in-law for 13 days, and we packed as much as possible into the visit including every form of transportation. King's College Chapel was a highlight. So much fun to see Tewkesbury Abbey through your photos and comments, Annette!
Gorgeous abbey! Thanks for the tour and history lesson, Annette! I bet that tea and carrot cake was a welcome respite.

Fascinating - never heard of "bosses" before

Just out of curiosity, does Non-Boring Abbey have flying buttresses?
But of course! 😄

Apparently, Damned Autocorrect changed Hoosen to Holden, and I missed it in a hurried edit. Hopefully that makes more sense.
Oh, wow! But Holden brought up a Game of Thrones reference in Google, so….😂 Plus, Hoosen isn't in any of these photos, so the plot thickens!

I'm so glad this has brought back happy memories, Celia! Thank you!
Bosses? Wow! Never heard of them before either. Loved this post, Annette!
Thanks, Kate!
