Too long! Have read all your stuff for a year or so and would describe none of it as too long (not even Part I) but Part II: too long/main points got buried in detail. The progress bar never moved. I cried uncle halfway through ...... (sorry)
Don't be sorry, GT! I agree! Every post is the product of a process of deep engagement with a text, then rewriting and rewriting for many, many hours. And sometimes -- crazy though this sounds-- I run out of time to rewrite again (this one was about five drafts). Plus other issues, including the concerns I write about in the all too many asides. 🤯
This must not be a thing any more, because my goodness TX & FL ~ Gov. Reeder’s firing. 'President Pierce fired him, for an ethics violation, i.e. arranging to build the Kansas state capital (and capitol) on his own land.'
An ethics violation rather like trying to host G7 at Doral, no? Very glad that didn't happen, although plenty of other ethics violations did.
Recipe share, because free-soil reference made me think of Chocolate wafers. Crumb crust, finely crush/ground 1c chocolate wafers, then coarse crush 1/2c Ritz crackers, mix all with 6oz melted butter. Makes a softer texture and adds a salty, buttery yum.
Ooh, thanks for the recipe! I'm up to. my elbows in runzas (aka bierocks) a Midwestern Cornish pasty-like thing: Beef and cabbage and far better than that sounds! The cheese helps. As for ethics violations, definitely around in early America, although I don't know that they were considered ethics violations. Until more recently, this was just expected. Likely still is. Check out my post on the Pyramid brothers. There was actually an enquiry, and punishment, but only for one man.
Oh, I love a good bierock, we have a shop here that (with advance notice) will fry the cabbage/onion in bacon fat which makes a huge difference with such a simple change! Do you use cheddar in yours or?

Talk about a cliffhanger! Now I have to read another book to find out if Kansas ever became a state!
LOL! Good one, Tim! :)

Cheddar! But wow, I need to try that!
